2006 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival

Photography & REVIEW by Robert W. Denney Jr

The mega music and arts camping festival known as Bonnaroo recently concluded the fifth chapter in its brief but storied history on Sunday June 18th with an estimated crowd of 80,000 people soaking in the sights, sounds, suds and sixties meets naughties vibes of the outdoor extravaganza. Highlights included a pulsating, pathos drenched display from Radiohead, a blunted house party by Cypress Hill, a skull bending set from Sonic Youth and a sensual, tropical fete from Brazilian Seu Jorge in addition to pleasing performances from Matisyahu, Mike Doughty, Oysterhead, Gomez, Clap Your Hands, My Morning Jacket and Lyrics Born plus sizzling sets from relative newcomers Andrew Bird, DeVotchKa, Toubab Krewe, the Refugee Allstars of Sierra Leone and Atmosphere and then a steal ur face finale lead by Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead. Heralded by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the 50 moments that changed the history of rock and roll, Bonnaroo 2006 might not have altered the course of popular music but it was one damn big impressive show!
